School to offer new IB course

A new IB Theater Literature class will be offered in the 2023-24 school year. This new class involves a bit more into the drama aspect than the class it is replacing.

“The old literature class was just an elective,” says Ms. Dorsa. “This is a whole new thing that’s opened up to 11th and 12th graders.”

This class is going to expand the theater world of those who take it, going into different acting styles and even public speaking. Even those who don’t take up extra activities such as the drama club can still benefit from this class.

“In 2016, we decided that it would be better to start with a more modest one-year course in performing arts called IB Literature and Performance,” said Mr. Nelson, IB Coordinator. “ Since then, interest in the IB Literature and Performance class has increased and Ms.Dorsa’s experience with teaching an IB course has grown.

Many students have already expressed an interest in taking this course next school year, looking forward to expanding their world of theater and the arts.

“I’m so looking forward to all the theater stuff,” says Ariana Then, junior. “ Also learning about Shakespear. It’s just going to be a really fun class.”

This new course expands the performating arts curriculum offered at the school by providing  practical training and experience for those students involved in musical theater and drama.

“By taking IB Theatre, they will be able to learn about different acting styles and theater traditions from an experienced teacher and performer,” says Mr. Nelson.
