Headed for a bite at a local deli during your lunch period or before you head into work? Leggios is an Italian-American local deli in Bay Shore located right by the high school that has a long local history with both the school and neighborhood. The deli is now under management by Dennis Reagan and Billy Couton, who have preserved the long Italian American history.
Located on Fourth Avenue in Bay Shore, Leggios was founded in the 1960s by the Leggio brothers, Joseph and Louis Leggio, who inherited the deli from their godparents. Leggios was a butcher shop which was later converted to the deli. The Leggio brothers ran the deli for years. Unfortunately, after Louis Leggio’s passing in 2022, they ended up having to put the deli up for sale.

Since reopening, Leggios’ new management has posted consistently to their Instagram account. This account highlights video interactions with patrons and staff. Sharah Blanco, an employee of Leggios, has been featured in some of these videos and shared that she has even been recognized at local Bay Shore businesses. In addition to their social media presence, Leggios is known for their high quality food. According to Blanco, there are a few crowd favorites.
“If it’s not bacon, egg and cheese, the next best thing is a Russian or Italian sandwich,” said Blanco. “We ensure everything looks delicious and tastes delicious, and whenever your order takes a while, remember you’re waiting on good quality food.”
Leggios is best known for its Italian hero sandwiches and is considered a community cornerstone in Bay Shore, especially among Bay Shore students. Senior Naomi Brito goes to Leggios almost everyday.
“Leggios actually listens to their customers and understands that many of their main customers are students,” said Brito. “They even give students a 10% discount, which makes it more affordable and shows they care about their regular customers.”
Leggios is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
