This holiday season is a time of family, friendship, and giving back to the community. This year Bay Shore High School had a Thanksgiving food drive on November 19, 2025. Students contributed by donating canned goods, pastas, their time, and more goods.
Students also volunteered to make boxes for families in need who will receive these foods. They organized the donated food in different piles and created the boxes with a lot of effort and love.
“I put away all donations and made boxes for families and made sure they got all the supplies they needed,” said senior Mikayla Herbert.
Many upper class students have been participating in this food drive ever since they started high school,
“It’s something I’ve been doing since freshman year. I love giving back to the community and to families in need,” Herbert said.
This food drive is run by Dr. Katie Kelly, the school social worker and club advisor for Peer Support.
“Its a time of family, community, and gratitude, that’s what this whole organization is all about,” said Dr. Katie Kelly.
Many students who decided to participate in this food drive for the first time showed a lot of gratitude toward this cause.
“After staying after school during peer support I was debating on whether or not I should participate in this food drive,” said freshman Nina Smith-Martin. “My friend changed my mind and I decided to do it, and I don’t regret my choice.”
During these holidays no family should be left hungry especially during these difficult times economically. These food drives within Bay Shore ensure the families in need receive the need and insists.
