On Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 the boys football team beat Brentwood with a score of 27-14 at Clifton Laplatney Field for the annual homecoming game. The game is held each year and brings together alumni and players.
There was a lot of excitement around this year’s game because of the chance the team had coming into this game compared to years past.
“Securing the victory has a tremendous impact on the team’s morale, it is a game that means a little more due to the fact it is an event that celebrates the history of the program and brings the community together,” Head Coach, Andrew Nevit said.
The crowd’s support gave them the drive to want to win even more and really show what the football team is capable of this year in front of Bay Shore Fans.
Senior Kaylee Correa-Fienga said, “the atmosphere of the game was phenomenal, from the cheerleaders to the band and all the support from the stands.”
“The crowd was booming all game long,” James Sobotka, senior running back said. “Hearing the fans cheer made the game mean more and motivated us to win. We felt the support of Bay Shore out on the field.”
“We were focused, very disciplined, and had a lot of energy which led us to success. Every time we got on the field, we were just ready to execute and put points on the scoreboard” Xavier Hector, starting quarterback.
Since the team worked together, the offense was successful scoring 27 points. All week the offense was focused at practice in preparation for the game, and executed the game plan while the coaches put them in the best position to win and the offense took full advantage of it. Some feelings can not really be expressed and the feeling of winning homecoming is one of them.
Sobotka said, “after securing the win I felt a sense of accomplishment and excitement for more games to come.” James Sobotka feels that they played well and they can only get better from here. Having a win under their belt is going to help their confidence and ultimately get to the next level and beat better opponents.
“The team has been putting in a lot of time on and off the field so I feel it was definitely deserved for the team overall,” said seior, Kaylee Coorea-Fienga. The time the team is putting in is paying off and showing in the results of the games, which is always a good feeling.
