Vending Machines are very popular in the Bay Shore high school (BSHS), but some changes need to be made for the student body. The school cafeteria contains two vending machines per cafeteria; one for vending snacks and one for drinks; students need more options.
Add Variety to Vending Machines
With more to choose from, more students could buy snacks. After getting restocked, vending machines have one or two rows empty, leaving room for both types of chips. There is a need for a bigger variety in the vending machines so that there are more options for people and more purchases are made. More snack options like the original chips, new flavors, or a sweet treat.Vending machines are for a quick snack throughout the day and with more options, more people would enjoy a midday snack, along with a cold nice refreshing drink.
The selection in the snack vending machine does not have a wide variety to choose from. These vending machines get restocked everyday during 8th period lunch with healthy “considered” items. Students have said that they would prefer more choices.
“I wish there would be more spicy chips,” said sophomore Voosqa Shakeel, “…candy and more options….”
Dorito Flamas are the only spicy chips offered. There are 11 types of chips being sold in these vending machines and are “healthier” versions of the original.
When asked about these healthy versions Mutaal Hasan, junior, said, “they don’t taste as good…”
Although healthy options are important to have, some prefer the original tasting chips.
“They’re not very good,” said senior Christian Bonilla, “The vending machines should provide the originals. ”
Add More Machines Around the School
Our school’s security guard, Miguel Angels Rodriguez, also agreed that the options are good but all the vending machines are located in the school cafeteria.
“…Some students stay and wander in the cafeteria…” said a security guard at our school, Miguel Angels Rodriguez.
A vending machine should be provided near the BSHS auditorium, and one on the third floor. With more of these vending machines scattered, students wouldn’t hav
e to enter the cafeteria to get a snack. Adding more vending machines could also be a great way to add more variety.
Hasan said “…the drinks are absolutely phenomenal, especially recently with the addition of a couple of new drinks. I think the drink vending machine should stay as is.”
Vending machines are a good way to have a snack throughout the day with a refreshing drink so with more choices more students/staff could enjoy a quick and easy snack.
